the good design awards is a highlight on the international design calendar, attracting australian and international design luminaries, industry thought-leaders, social, political and cultural dignitaries and mainstream media. gda has a proud heritage that dates back to the industrial design council of australia established in 1958 and is recognised by the international council of societies of industrial design (icsid) as australia’s peak design endorsement program. the product and concept designs are displayed across multiple disciplines and industries 

the brief

the complexity and format of the event has grown exponentially over the years expanding in size, scale and opening up to even more product categories of design. gda came to sense to design and deliver a design festival featuring a unique public exhibition, judges awards, good design exchange, vivid exhibition and awards ceremony. we worked with the festival’s owner, dr brandon gien to help restructure the festival, work with vivid sydney to meet their investment criteria and develop the strategy and creative design behind the delivery of the festival as a whole

here is how we did it

we took over the overseas passenger terminal in sydney, using the lower ground as a public exhibition for finalist’s designs and the upper level for the awards ceremony. the public exhibit was styled to feel like retail space using wood pallets, separated into categories and placed intentionally to offer an exciting flow of the product displays. we maximised attendance as foot traffic was high due to having the display open during vivid - a world renowned light exhibition. sponsorship is critical to the success of this week long event. we partnered with the gda to invite design-driven partners and supporters who share the vision to join this much celebrated design event. we consulted on the sponsor offering in the context of the event as well as negotiated sponsor benefits via the marketing opportunities provided by inclusion in vivid sydney. we helped the organisation maximise outreach through media, marketing spend, festival website, social media and an industry database. plus leveraging the vivid foot traffic alone of 1.7 million

we had an invitation only cocktail reception to officially launch the good design festival. guests had an exclusive preview of good design showcase finalists exhibition. the guest list consisted of design industry vips, government representatives, media, industry associations and good design partners

gala awards and afterparty

for an audience of 650 people, we had an exclusive black-tie dinner where larry emdur was the mc for the awards ceremony. we followed with an afterparty that had up to 900 guests. guests were at the best vantage point for opening night of vivid sydney and world famous projections on the opera house sails.

we had an after party for 800 guests in the cargo hall with djs and entertainment from the likes of katie noonan
